Michael Sheen

Michael SheenAlready a highly regarded British actor, Michael Sheen's popularity and critical acclaim in the theatre is quickly translating to the big screen with roles in such high profile feature films as Sony’s UNDERWORLD and LAWS OF ATTRACTION for New Line.

Classically trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, where he won the SWET/Laurence Olivier Bursary Award, Sheen made his stage debut in the West End production of WHEN SHE DANCED for director Robert Ackerman.  Soon after, under the direction of Declan Donellan, Sheen was nominated for the Ian Charleson Award for his work in DON’T FOOL WITH LOVE.

Michael continued his theatre career and was nominated a second time for the Ian Charleson Award for HENRY V at the RSC.  He returned to the Royal National Theatre for the production of LOOK BACK IN ANGER for which he was nominated for the Olivier Award as well as the Evening Standard Award. Sheen, complemented his theatrical career with roles in such films as Oliver Parker's OTHELLO and Brian Gilbert's WILDE, with Jude Law and Vanessa Redgrave, and Stephen Frear's MARY REILLY.  His most recent theatrical success, playing Mozart in Sir Peter Hall's AMADEUS, brought him from the West End to Broadway, as well as a nomination for the Outer Critic's Circle Award and the accolades of American audiences. 

Hot off the success of AMADEUS, Sheen earned his first leading role in an American studio film, Shekhar Kapur's THE FOUR FEATHERS, starring opposite Heath Ledger and Wes Bentley for Miramax/Paramount.  His performance gained him the confidence of the studios and Sheen swiftly landed the starring role in Miramax's, HEARTLANDS, for director Damian O'Donnel (EAST IS EAST).  On its heels, he was cast in the Paramount studios feature film, TIMELINE opposite Paul Walker and Frances O'Connor for director Richard Donner.

Since then, Michael has starred in the Screen Gems/Lakeshore Entertainment feature UNDERWORLD opposite Kate Beckinsale and in Stephen Fry’s directorial debut BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS.  He also starred as British Prime Minister “Tony Blair” in Stephen Frears’ controversial telepic THE DEAL for London’s Channel 4, and can also be seen in a starring role opposite Pierce Brosnan & Julianne Moore in the New Line feature LAWS OF ATTRACTION for director Peter Howitt. He has worked for director Ridley Scott in the 20th Century Fox feature KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and stars opposite Shirley Henderson in DIRTY FILTHY LOVE for Granada Television and director Adrian Shergold. He can currently be seen reprising his role as “Tony Blair” in Stephen Frears' THE QUEEN and recently finished filming THE MUSIC WITHIN, The true story of Richard Pimentel, a brilliant public speaker with a troubled past.

In addition to winning the London Critics Circle Award and the Evening Standard Award, Michael was nominated for the prestigious Olivier Award for Best Actor for his tour de force performance as CALIGULA for director Michael Grandage at London’s Donmar Warehouse Theatre last Spring. 

Michael has just finished starring as “David Frost” on the West End and is reprising the same role, to rave reviews, on Broadway in the play FROST/NIXON.
