BUTCHER BOYS

Butcher Boys is set in the ‘Hussain and Son Halal Butchers’, in the heart of an inner-city, predominately Asian populated area.

Naylah Ahmed was born in Birmingham in 1976. She began taking her writing seriously after the publication of two short stories by Tindal Street Press (A SOLITARY DANCE, WHISPERS IN THE WALLS; AQUA BLUE, HER MAJESTY). She has since written plays for BBC Radio 4 (MRS. PARKER, untitled live short for The Verb, THE HAPPY GATHERING, and ZUBEDA). Her modest TV credits to date include BBC Scotland’s RIVER SITY. She is currently under commission with Birmingham Repertory Theatre for THESE FOUR STREETS (a play commissioning six writers to respond to the incidents in Lozells 2005, to be staged in the new year). Naylah has also produced plays for BBC Radio 4, and is currently Script Editor/Producer on the BBC’s Asian Network radio soap SILVER STREET. BUTCHER BOYS is Naylah’s first full length stage play.

MOGADISHI by Vivienne Franzmann
This play takes place in an inner city school, in which a teacher, Amanda, is accused of racial harassment.

Vivienne Franzmann was born in 1971. She is a Drama teacher in a comprehensive school in London. She lives in East London. This is her first play.

SALT by Fiona Peek
In this play, each scene takes place during a different course of a different meal shared between four old friends.

Fiona Peek was born in the Midlands but brought up just on the wrong side of the Pennines in Halifax. She’s 41, has a BA Hons from Trinity, Cambridge in English and Philosophy and recently completed an MA in Dramatic Writing with distinction at the University of Sussex in Brighton. SALT was begun on the MA course. Prior to the MA Fiona had worked for 10 or so years in Ireland, firstly as an actress and subsequently as director and sometime producer, during which time she wrote various short pieces for theatre. SALT is, however, her first full length play. Fiona lives in Brighton with her small family.

BEFORE THE ECHOES DIE AWAY by Andy Sheridan
This play is set in and around Manchester between 1984 and New Years Eve 1999.

Andy is currently an actor and his credits include: JONAH AND OTTO, THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE, ACROSS OKA, PORT, THE RIBCAGE, SKINNED, ROMEO & JULIET, SPRING AWAKENING, and HENRY V (many are for the Royal Exchange). Film credits include Terry Mason in the BAFTA Award Winning CONTROL. Television credits include KINGDOM, COLD BLOOD, CORONATION STREET, NEW STREET LAW, SHAMELESS, HEARTBEAT, BURIED, NIGHT FLIGHT, URBAN GOTHIC, CLOCKING OFF. This is the first play Andy has written.
