How would you like to walk across the cobbles and be part of the World’s longest running continuing drama?
The story department is looking for a talented and ambitious Story Assistant to join the team to assist the storyliners in developing and writing storylines for Coronation Street.
This role entails Generating story ideas and producing robust storylines to deadlines agreed with the Producers and Story Producer. This role will also include talking through storylines, attending writers conferences, generating ideas and writing and editing storylines.
Some responsibilities for the role include :
- To assist in the contribution of ideas to story conferences and story talk throughs.
- To assist the storyliners to create and structure dynamic and compelling storylines.
- To work with the storyliners to work to the Producer’s brief, implementing and editing storylines to an agreed vision.
- Liaising with storyliners / writers/script editors as and when required.
- Assessing research/cast availability and production requirements in accordance with producing storylines.
- The Coronation Street story team generates storylines for six episodes a week, 52 weeks of the year and is the engine of the show. The role requires someone creative, resilient and a great team worker.
To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills:
Minimum role criteria:
- Must have at least 6 months experience working in an Editorial office for a TV broadcast production.
- Taking of minute meetings is essential
- Knowledge and understanding of TV production processes,
- Excellent writing skills and a good eye for spelling and detail.
- Experience pitching and developing story ideas.
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of characters, storylines and episode structure. With the ability to write clearly and concisely in keeping with the Corrie house style.
- Able to demonstrate good editorial judgement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all involved in a Coronation Street Production.
- Fluent in the English language.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to defend and debate story ideas.
- Strong team player but also the ability to use initiative.
- Strong IT skills, with the willingness to learn the software used in Storylining.
