The Digital Theatre Initiative, supported by YouTube

The Initiative is designed to support those who want to create content that answers the question ‘what is theatre when it’s online?’. The aim is to help participants continue innovation in digital theatre, break down boundaries, make the arts accessible to more people, and ultimately encourage more people to engage with live theatre.

Up to 4 Participants will receive between £10,000 – £20,000 to create 3-4 pieces of content to be hosted on their YouTube channel (and beyond).

Participants will be mentored throughout the programme by YouTube & content-creation experts.

They’ll be asked to create one main piece of content, alongside two or three smaller additional pieces (these could be other stand-alone pieces, or related to the main content eg backstage footage, Q&A, ‘making of’). We don’t have a particular format in mind and participants don’t have to film inside a theatre if they don’t want to — but we’ll want to feel that the pieces are somehow rooted in – or connected to – the performing arts.

Content must be completed and uploaded by 15th July 2021

Panel includes Dame Sheila Hancock; Inua Ellams; Bunny Christie OBE; Bijan Sheibani and Matthew Byam Shaw.
