Back to Writing Opportunities
The Mercury Theatre is dedicated to finding, supporting, and producing the next generation of playwrights based in the East of England, and are currently open for script submissions.

There is currently no full-time literary manager, so consequently the team cannot offer feedback and are only open for submissions across two periods in a year. You will receive an email acknowledging we have received your script.

The team will contact you within six months to let you know if they are able or unable to offer you a place on their script development programme.

As part of the script development programme you will be invited to participate in some of the following ways:

  • Receive feedback on the story, characters and structure
  • Stage 10 minutes of your script as part of one of the regular Mercury Scratch Nights
  • Take part in a rehearsed reading of your script in the Studio
  • Develop the script for full production

Send the first 30 pages, a short email letting the team know where you are based, your experience so far as a writer and if you have any access needs.

They will not accept adaptations/musicals , plays that have already been produced or incomplete scripts or proposals . There will be other opportunities in the year to pitch these proposals separately.
