Now in it’s 16th year, New Works of Merit Playwriting Contest was developed to bring works of social significance to the attention of Artistic Directors. The Award is a reading with a Q&A in a professional venue valued at $1000 and a $300 dollar cash prize. There is a submission fee of $25

Eligible Scripts​

• Scripts no longer than 2 hrs or 90 pages long. Please note: Scripts with over 90 pages, but with a performance time under 2 hrs ARE eligible
• The Award accepts scripts which address at least one of the following intentions;
  • Enhance self-realisation
  • Support peace and social justice
  • Foster New understanding of minority issues that focus on racial, ethnic and gender discrimination
  • Empower youth to build healthy inner foundations
  • Educate to gain further insight into healthy inner foundations
  • Educate to gain further insight into healthy social/emotional living
  • Shed new light on religious, spiritual, sexual and cultural differences and issues
  • Build respect and tolerance for cultural and sexual expression and identity in a world that is experiencing rapid globalisation
  • Explore the widening gap between the values the USA was founded on and the values they present the world today
• Please note, musicals, adaptations and short plays in a themed collection are NOT accepted.
