This role is part time at 60% fte and fixed term for 12 months with an expected start date of 1st September 2021.                                                                               

The School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Creative Writing (Theatre Script) 0.6 FTE (Teaching and Scholarship), for 12 months (fixed-term). The start date is 1st September 2021 and the end date is 31st August 2022.

You will have a PhD (in hand or near completion) in a relevant subject area and/ or a track record in the production and/or publication of significant, rigorous and original creative writing (theatre script), as well as proven experience in teaching creative writing (theatre script) to undergraduate students.

You will be expected to act as module leader and teach on the second-year module, ‘Theatre Script Workshop’ and the MA modules ‘Masterclass: Monologue’ and ‘Theatre Script Workshop’. They will also be expected to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate independent work. A record of high-quality practice-led teaching in creative writing (theatre script) is essential.

Key Accountabilities

• Design and deliver high quality teaching and learning materials and activities to undergraduate and postgraduate taught students in creative writing (theatre script)
• Take responsibility for the role of Module Leader of Theatre Script Workshop (UG Stage 2 module) and the MA modules ‘Masterclass: Monologue’ and ‘Theatre Script Workshop’.
• Play an active role in the ongoing development of the Literature and Creative Writing BA and the Creative Writing MA
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate taught students working in these areas
• Work collaboratively with colleagues in the School and across the University
• Undertake administrative duties as required by the Head of School
• Provide personal tutoring and mentoring for students
• Integrate scholarship, research and/or professional activities with teaching and supporting learning, as appropriate.

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Extensive teaching experience at undergraduate level creative writing (theatre script)
• Teaching experience at postgraduate level in the area
• An interest in and engagement with high quality teaching in creative writing
• Knowledge of creative writing pedagogy
• Evidence of research outputs (productions and/or publications) in the field that are commensurate with career stage
• Capacity and willingness to contribute to teaching, supervision and administrative work in the School
• Experience of and willingness to deliver pastoral support of students at all levels
• A commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in teaching and education
• A teaching qualification (Higher Education Academy Fellowship or equivalent) or the expectation of completing a teaching qualification while in post (desirable)
