The Brontë Parsonage Museum Open Call: Writer in Residence

The Brontë Parsonage Museum is excited to announce our open call for a Writer in Residence, working with them from April 2022-March 2023. For a commission of £4000, our they are on the hunt for a writer who will create new work that defies expectations, whilst working with the community.  Shortlisted writers will be invited to set out what they feel is a realistic programme of work in return for this fee.

The  2022 exhibition is ‘Defying Expectations: Inside Charlotte Brontë’s Wardrobe’, and focuses on some of the remarkable garments and accessories worn by Charlotte Brontë. They want to commission a writer who is dedicated to ‘defying expectations’ through their creative practice, in both the way they produce work and what they create. During their residency, they want the writer to use the Brontë story or the unique collection as a springboard for new creative practices and new work.

They also want to commission a writer who is passionate about developing work with and within our communities. This might include having conversations with our visitors on a busy day, drop-in writing sessions or running workshops with particular groups in the community.
