An agent and dramaturg, Mel develops and works collaboratively with some of the world’s most respected playwrights. In her workshop she will address re-drafting, taking notes, how to respond to notes and implement them, the collaborative nature of playwriting and how to really push the theatricality of your work while remaining true and ambitious to your intentions.
Mel has set a task for the live-writers in the room and viewers at home. Prior to the workshop she would like you all to write a scene:
PROVOCATION – YOUR SCENE SHOULD BE:
Between 2-4 minutes running time.
It should be set outside.
It should be any time between midnight and 2am anywhere in the world.
There should be 2-3 characters
Something must change between what we see at the beginning and what we see at the end.
Mel Kenyon was literary manager of the Royal Court Theatre and in 1992 she joined the literary agency Casarotto Ramsay and Associates Ltd. Her clients are among the most celebrated theatre practitioners in the world, writers include: Alan Ayckbourn, David Hare, Caryl Churchill, Simon Stephens, Christopher Hampton, Dennis Kelly, David Greig, Sam Holcroft and Lucy Kirkwood, the late Tennessee Williams and Sarah Kane. Directors include: John Tiffany, John Crowley, Marianne Elliott, Michael Boyd, Polly Findlay and Ed Hall. As well as designers Bunny Christie, Vicki Mortimer and Rae Smith. She also handles the theatrical rights for a number of prestigious rights holders including the Dahl Estate and the novelists Neil Gaiman and Mark Haddon.
