Action Transport- Young Writers programmes for 13-17 year olds

The Action Transport Young Writers programmes are designed to nurture and encourage new writing talent. Throughout the year there are loads of opportunities to get involved.

Writers Cafe

Start with 6 writing sessions leading up to the Writers’ Café (held on the evening of the 11th of November). This event is an informal, sparkling evening of sharing your writing to parents, friends etc with tea and cake.
Through these sessions you’ll have the chance to work with a prize-winning writer and one of the UK’s top young people’s theatre companies.
You’ll get to write stuff (stories, scenes from plays, monologues poems, whatever floats your boat) – even if you’ve never written before but would like to give it a go – in a fun, supportive atmosphere.
There will be writing, chatting, creative ideas, biscuits and the chance to meet new people and make new friends too.

Sat 12 October – 11:00am
Sat 19 October – 11:00am
Sat 26 October – 11:00am
Sat 2 November – 11:00am
Fri 8 November – 5:30pm
Sun 10 November – 11:00am

Write a Play Together

The Write a Play Together project for 2019 / 2020 will start after our Writers Cafe on Monday 11th November 2019. One idea will then be chosen from the Writers Cafe as the focus for the collectively written play, and as a group of writers you’ll meet six-eight times throughout November 2019- February 2020 to write a play. This play will then be performed by students from Cheshire College South and West, and will tour local primary schools in Spring 2020.

The play created during this project in 2016-17 was called Scooter Race. It was highly commended at the 2017 Cheshire West Voluntary and Community Arts Awards. Read about the award here and the project here. Last year’s play How To Survive The Day brought together a range of stories and experiences of school and received great feedback at all the school venues.

Three Up

Three Up is an unique opportunity for four ATT Young Writers to collaborate with other young writers based in Australia and Canada.
Learn writing skills from professional writers, complete mini projects and challenges with other writers from the three countries, and share your work digitally across the globe.

The project culminates in a fantastic sharing event where you can see your very own writing performed live across three continents.
Action Transport Theatre in Ellesmere Port is the only UK theatre involved in the project, working together with Ryde Theatre in Australia and the Theatre for Young Audiences in Toronto, Canada.

There are various sessions at Whitby Hall and projects for you to complete at home. The Three Up project for 2020 will be announced soon! Watch this space or get in touch for more information.
