Almeida Young Company: Artist Call Out

The Almeida is looking for an artist/group of artists/company to work with their Young Company (18–25 year olds) to make a new piece of performance in 2019.

The Almeida Young Company is a year-long ensemble company, who meet weekly to train, make theatre and perform together. Through a wide-ranging process which encompasses acting, writing, devising and performing, their aim is to develop the theatre artists of the future. For this year’s intake they auditioned 200 people from across London. In previous years, we have collaborated with commissioned writers including Molly Taylor, Luke Barnes and Ontroerend Goed member Joeri Smet to create performances that push the boundaries of what theatre made with young people can be.

Deadline

5pm, Wednesday 31 October.

What they are looking for

They are currently looking for proposals from directors, writers or companies to create for an ambitious piece of theatre which challenges and engages the 18–25 year old Young Company. This can be an idea that you have for a new show, an adaptation or something immersive, but it must be appropriate and engaging for an ensemble of up to 20 people. At this point they cannot guarantee where the final performance will take place, so we are open to suggestions which will take place in non-traditional settings.

They are open to joint submissions by groups of artists e.g. director/writer, director/movement director etc.

You would need to be available on Tuesday evenings between January and July, as well as other dates to be agreed between you and the company. Ideally you will also be available to run three sessions of research & development in November.

The fee will be reflective of whether the collaboration is with a single or group of artists but the Almeida are committed to paying standard industry rates.
