What makes writing for audio different from other forms of drama? How do you find the perfect audio idea? And how do you find a home for your script?

Audio drama has a long, illustrious history in the UK. The form carries with it a unique intimacy that differentiates it from film, television and theatre. Now, with new platforms emerging all the time, there has never been a better time to start thinking about creating drama specifically for audio and considering areas of the form to innovate.

This workshop with the award-winning writer of Comment Is Free and Death of Cosmonaut will dig into the possibilities and challenges that come with writing for a listener, looking at both the practical writing side and how the industry works more broadly.

What will you do on the day?

You’ll analyse extracts from some of the most successful examples of audio drama from recent years, as well as undertake practical exercises in both audio scene-writing and pitching. You’’ll talk about how best to work with a producer, how to write for the production process and finally how to find a home for your drama with the BBC or elsewhere.

Who is it for?

All experiences are welcome: the day may be most beneficial to writers who have some dramatic writing experience but are new to writing for audio.
