APPLY TO JOIN THE 2022 BANK COHORT

Since opening in 2019, The Bank has been the home for artist development at Sheffield Theatres, hosting workshops, residencies, and our supported artist scheme: The Bank Cohort. Sheffield Theatres are delighted to be welcoming applications for a second round of supported artists at The Bank.

They are looking for three directors, three writers, and three producers to be part of the cohort, as well as three creatives of any discipline including, but not limited to; theatremakers, designers, composers, choreographers and movement directors.

Successful applicants will receive support and development opportunities based on their discipline, with tailored mentoring from industry professionals working at Sheffield Theatres.

Members of all Bank Cohorts will receive full-group workshops, access to a library of play-scripts, networking opportunities, bi-monthly check-ins and pastoral support from Sheffield Theatres’ Talent Development Coordinator Tommi Bryson, and invitations to events at Sheffield Theatres.

Members of the Directing Cohort will receive mentoring from Sheffield Theatres’ Artistic Director Rob Hastie and Associate Artistic Director Anthony Lau, as well as workshops from industry professionals, and the paid opportunity to work as an assistant director on a Sheffield Theatres production.

Members of the Producing Cohort will receive mentoring from Sheffield Theatres’ Producer John Tomlinson, as well as workshops from industry professionals, opportunities to hot-desk at Sheffield Theatres (COVID guidelines permitting), opportunities to gain producing knowledge at Sheffield Theatres, and £1,000 of seed funding.

Members of the Writing Cohort will receive both group and one-to-one support from Sheffield Theatres’ New Work Coordinator Ruby Clarke, as well as workshops from industry professionals, a £1,000 fee for two paid weeks of writing, time with a director and company of actors to further develop their pieces in a rehearsal setting, and the opportunity to record a reading for industry showcasing.

Members of the Bank Cohort from other disciplines will receive tailored mentorship and development opportunities, opportunities to work on Sheffield Theatres’ productions in suitable roles, involvement in relevant development undertaken by other cohorts, and workshops from industry professionals.

Criteria 

Applicants should be from or currently live within a 25-mile radius of Sheffield, or should have a clear connection to the city and/or surrounding area.

They encourage those in the early-mid stages of their careers to apply.

Deadline

10am Monday 6 December.

Longlist interviews will take place online from 8 – 9 December,

Shortlist interviews will take place online from 15 -16 December.

For successful applicants, sessions will take place on a regular basis, either online or in-person at The Bank, from January – December 2022.
