The BBC Writersroom is looking to refresh their pool of script readers. In particular they are looking to add more readers from under-represented groups including those who identify as having a disability to increase diversity and representation in their pool of readers.
If you are interested in becoming a member of our freelance script reader team and you can demonstrate at least 3 years of relevant industry experience, they’ll be asking you to upload your CV and an example of a script report that you have written (maximum 700 words) via their online platform.
Person Specification
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role (this could be film, television, theatre, radio etc). For applicants who identify as deaf, disabled and/or neuro-divergent readers should demonstrate at least 18 months experience or 4 relevant reading jobs;
- A detailed and demonstrable understanding of storytelling and specifically screenwriting;
- Ability to recognise promising talent and potential in dramatic scripted submissions;
- A demonstrable commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion;
- Excellent communication skills;
- A keen interest in the television drama and comedy drama landscape;
- An interest and awareness of emerging talent in film, TV, theatre and emerging media;
- Organised approach to work and ability to work to tight deadlines;
- An interest in the work of the BBC Writersroom and BBC Drama generally.
Please note if you are also a writer and intend to apply to one of the BBC Writersroom’s writer development programmes (Drama Room, Voices, Writers’ Access Group) that would represent a conflict of interest and they would not be able to work with you as a freelance reader during that submission window.
