Behind Closed Doors – Call out for writers

Lemon House Theatre is looking for 10-15 minute plays to be featured in Behind Closed Doors, an online night of rehearsed readings that’ll be staged later this autumn as part of Theatre Deli’s LiveFromDeli programme. This night will showcase work by writers of underrepresented genders (including cis women, trans women, trans men, non-binary people and those who are otherwise marginalised) and they are looking for short plays that explore themes of sex, bodies and intimacy.

The night will be asking how much important conversations around sex have opened up – are we actually more liberated or just finding new ways to take issues with our bodies? And how has the pandemic changed the way we date? Behind Closed Doors is particularly looking at how sex interacts with other areas of identity, including how sex and non-Western cultures co-exist, and how sex is discussed in non-heteronormative relationships.

Selected writers will receive a £200 fee, a 1:1 session with a dramaturg, a performance of their work and a video of the piece, as well as audience feedback.

Writers can submit by emailing lemonhousetheatre@gmail.com with: their script, a short bio (including why they’d like to be involved in the night), and an equal opportunities form.

Plays will need to be 10-15 minutes in length, either as standalone pieces or extracts of longer scripts, and involve 1-2 actors (but could be multi-rolled).

Deadline:

5pm on 30 September.
