Blood Beats: LGBTQ+ Writers Group- BEATING WRITERS BLOCK!

Thu, 27 Apr 2023 19:00 – 21:30 BST

The Yard Manchester 11 Bent Street Cheetham Hill M8 8NF

Blood Beats is a cross disciplinary LGBTQ+ writing group, aimed at creating a supportive community space for writers to come together, develop their craft through activities and workshops, as well as sharing the highs and lows of our creative journey with our peers.

Whether you’re an aspiring poet, playwright, screenwriter, or just someone who’s finding your literary language and hoping to grow as a writer – all are welcome.

Aprils session is going to be all about BEATING WRITERS BLOCK!

It’s spring, and that means it’s time to blast the cobwebs off that half finished play, short story, sonnet, or novel that you’ve (not) been working on, and let’s break the block together!

Whether you’ve got a tried and tested method of unsticking yourself that you’d like to share, or a problem project that you’re struggling with, this month we’ll open up our processes and find our way out of the weeds together!

Blood Beats is led by Box of Tricks’s Playwright-in-Residence Conway McDermott & Literary Associate Billie Collins

Conway is a trans non-binary writer from Liverpool. The winner of the Box of Tricks Screen/Play award, they’re currently writing for BBC’s EastEnders, and have previously written for Screen Yorkshire, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, as well as working as an artist and performer with FACT, the Liverpool Biennale, and many more organisations across the UK and Europe.

Billie Collins is a writer for stage, screen and audio whose debut play TOO MUCH WORLD AT ONCE toured nationally in Spring 2023. As a writer, Billie has previously worked with ThickSkin Theatre, Film Hub North, the BBC, and Toastie Animation. Billie has also been a script reader for organisations including the BFI, Film 4 and the Liverpool Everyman Theatre, and is a Literary Associate with Box of Tricks.
