Call for Submissions- DRAFT Glasgow

A new writing development event for fresh ideas.

DRAFT will take place on Thursday 31st August at the bungo in Glasgow.

Theatre company In Motion are looking for Scotland-based writers interested in developing new work in an intensive, collaborative environment.

The DRAFT Process:

Four 20 minute extracts from writers with new ideas in development, unanswered questions and a desire to explore the potential in their work will be selected. There’s no set theme, In Motion are simply looking for as-yet-unseen work with strong dramatic potential.

Selected writers will be invited to meet with the In Motion TC team prior to the event itself. The focus here is for writers to discuss the inspiration and ambition for their work, as well as the questions they’re looking to answer through the DRAFT process.

On the day of the event, each writer will be joined by professional actors and a director to stage a reading of their extract in 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The day will culminate in staged readings of four new extracts to a public audience. In Motion will ask audience members to share thoughts on each piece, allowing writers to leave with feedback and hopefully an idea towards the future development of their work.

Submission requirements

Do you have a 15-20 minute as-yet-unseen extract that you’re looking to develop?

Could your extract be performed by a maximum of 4 actors?

Are you based in Scotland and able to attend:

  • a rehearsal and staged reading in Glasgow on Thursday 31st August?

  • a meeting with the IMTC team in the week leading up to the event?

If so, please send a clearly formatted extract (with page numbers and in .docx or PDF format) along with a completed Submission Form (click to download) to by midnight on Thursday 10th August with ‘DRAFT: [Title of extract]’ as the subject line.
