Welcome to Cookie Jar Media, the entertainment outlet of a big tech company. Go behind the scenes – and behind the smiles – as the team finds themselves in and amidst a desperate rebrand following the suicide of their former colleague, TV host Layla Cabell. After deepfake porn using her image went viral, the media tore her reputation apart, and she was fired from her job. In lieu of this, Cookie Jar Media have found the perfect replacement for Layla, squeaky clean newcomer to the industry, Cam. But it seems that Layla’s presence still lingers…
COOKIE JAR is a fast-paced, comedic drama play, that implores us to reflect on how much of ourselves do we actually own. Written by emerging talent, Kiran Benawra and produced by female-led theatre company Abeille Theatre, COOKIE JAR begs the question: In a world where new technologies are developing at lightning speed, how can we tell what’s real or not?
Abeille Theatre is an international female-led theatre company, co-founded by Leicester-born Emma Rowbotham & Malta-born Bettina Paris. We produce original, unexpected & spirited new work that is politically charged, challenges form & pushes the boundaries of what theatre & performance look like today.
Bettina Paris is a director, writer, actor and theatremaker who took home the award for ‘Best Director’ at the International Theatre Festival (Malta) in 2016. Emma Rowbotham is an actor and theatremaker who forms part of both NYT AND NYMT respectively. Working with Kiran Benawra, who formed part of The Monobox’s 2019 PLAYSTART scheme, forms part of their company vision to commission new writers for 50% of the work they produce per year.
