Have you ever seen a play and thought you’d like to write your own? Learn the basics of script writing for stage in this fun, practical workshop! Caitlin will take you through three of the basics of writing for stage, Story, Character and Dialogue through a mix of discussion, clips and practical exercises. This workshop is open to everyone – if you’ve never written before, have an idea for a play, or are ready to start writing – and all are welcome!

All CRIPtic Arts workshops are BSL Interpreted, have auto-captions, and have integrated audio description (including self-descriptions).

Caitlin is a queer, disabled, plus-size writer from East Belfast. Although they have always had an interest in theatre, primarily in facilitation and directing, they started focusing on writing during lockdown in 2020.

Caitlin was a New Playwright with the Lyric Theatre Belfast in 2021 where she wrote her first play Wee Buns, a musical comedy about fatness and fertility. Their second play Trifled, based in part on their experience of living with agoraphobia, is currently in development.

Last year they also started working across screen and audio. Their two minute short “Dear Body” was made as part of BBC NI’s Two Minute Masterpiece scheme, and went on to be nominated for Best Northern Irish Short at the British Short Film Awards. They also had two pieces air on BBC Radio 4 in 2022. Orangefield, a romantic comedy set in an East Belfast chippy, and “Her Voice”, a short story about a disgruntled drama teacher.
