Directing Classics opportunity with director Atri Banerjee

Directing Classics opportunity with director Atri Banerjee

26th October

7-9pm

This interactive workshop will take place via zoom, and is suitable for people aged over 18 who are interested in exploring paths in directing and writing. Some previous experience of theatre-making is desirable.

What is a ‘classic’? Why do we still put on productions of old plays today?

In this session, Atri will draw on his own personal experience to talk about the ways in which classic plays are still relevant and how staging them can help us explore both the world and ourselves. The session will include examples from his own work, along with some possible approaches towards your own productions of a classic play.

Atri is a theatre director and writer based in London. He trained at Birkbeck, and was previously Trainee Director at the Royal Exchange, Manchester.

For Hobson’s Choice at the Exchange, Atri won The Stage Debut Award 2019 for Best Director and nominated for the UK Theatre Award 2019 for Best Director. Pre-pandemic, he was due to direct The Glass Menagerie at the Exchange and the revival of the theatre’s 2019 production of West Side Story. Atri is a Resident Director at the Alemdia Theatre.
