Fighting Words Belfast at the Lyric Theatre- for 14-18 year olds

THE RIGHT TWIG is the exciting young playwrights’ programme with Fighting Words Belfast and the Lyric Theatre. It’s free and open to anyone aged 14-18 who wants to learn from professionals about writing for theatre and creating new performances.

THE RIGHT TWIG will give 8 young people in Belfast (ages 14-18) the chance to create their own short play, and to collaborate with professional directors and actors to bring it to life. They will work from the foundations up – so you’re welcome whether you’re trying play-writing for the first time or already love theatre and want to dive deeper.

RIGHT TWIG participants will take part in a series of 10 free workshops, learning about theatre straight from writers, directors, performers, designers, dramaturgs, and other creative professionals. In-depth drama and writing sessions will support each writer as they develop a new play.

The Right Twig involves an ongoing commitment to a series of weekend workshops from November 2019 to March 2020. They will take place at the Lyric Theatre on the following dates:

Saturday 30th November (11-3)
Sunday 8th December (12-4)
Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th January 2020 (11-3)
Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th January (11-3)
Sunday 9th February (11-3)
Saturday 22nd February (11-3)
Sunday 1st March (11-3) – at Skainos Centre (Newtownards Road)
Saturday 7th March (11-6) – Rehearsal 1
Sunday 8th March (11-6) – Rehearsal 2
Monday 9th March (4-9) – Showcase Performance
(Ideally participants will be available for 8 of the 10 workshop dates, plus rehearsals and the showcase. Please let us know if you are interested, even if you have scheduling conflicts.)

These brand new theatre pieces will be performed on Monday 9th March at the Lyric Theatre, as part of the 22nd Belfast Children’s Festival. This free showcase will reveal the wild imagination and weeks of hard work the writers have put in, with professional directors and actors giving voice to fresh characters and stories. Free event (booking essential).
