Free on-line writing courses for young people aged 14-20 years

From Monday 11 May, Queen’s Hall Arts and Hexham Book Festival will be running two free on-line writing courses for young people aged 14-20 years, led by writer and theatre maker, Becci Sharrock.

Young Playwrights
[6 weeks from Monday 11 May]

The young playwrights’ course will explore what it takes to write a short script, from initial idea through to first draft; everything from deciding on the themes you want to explore to creating characters, writing dialogue and structuring a script.

Young Writers
[6 weeks from Saturday 16 May]

The young writers’ course will give you the chance to try lots of different styles of writing, from flash fiction to poetry, using found text to response writing.

Each week (on a Monday for the Playwriting Group and a Saturday for the Creative Writing Group) Becci will email you out activities that you can complete in your own time at home. There is also the option to send your work back to Becci for feedback, if you want to. This is an opportunity to get additional advice on how to edit, develop or extend your work.

Activities will be designed for all ability levels so you don’t need to be a confident writer, just willing to have a go. This is your chance to be creative, develop new skills and have fun!

At the end of each course, writers will have the opportunity to send their work in to be included in an on-line gallery of pieces that have been created through the course.
