Green Stories Writing Competition- TV/Radio series 

The University of Southhampton are looking for a series suitable for TV or a streaming platform such as Netflix or Radio that in some way touches upon ideas around building a sustainable society.  They will consider all genres – rom-com, literary fiction, science fiction, mystery, crime etc. – but stories must engage with the idea of environmentally sustainable practices and/or sustainable societies.

They offer winners a free script appraisal and treatment by the Literary Consultancy, and they will be send winning scripts to production companies for consideration.

BBC Writers room have agreed to read the top five scripts and follow up with any writers they think have promise. In addition, Red Production Company have put on some fabulous dramas such as ‘Last Tango in Halifax’ and ‘Come Home’ have agreed to read the winning script and  consider it for production. The Production Company ‘Planet Zero’ have also agreed to read the top three scripts. Graham Smith from Grand Media liaise between writers and streaming companies such as Netflix and are happy to follow up any scripts they think have promise.

Deadline:

August 26th 2021 

Submission details will be provided in April/May 2021. Your script will get a better reception if written in a standard TV episode format e.g. see https://downloads.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/scripts/screenplaytv.pdf
