Ignite: York Theatre Royal Artist development programme

York Theatre Royal is a creative hub for the city of York and the IGNITE Artist Development Programme will spark a new wave of artists making and showcasing theatre and performance in York. Over the next nine months York Theatre Royal will invest £10,000 through IGNITE to support artists and companies.

They are looking for artists and companies from any artform and discipline – writers and actors, theatre companies and theatre-makers, dancers and choreographers, poets and spoken word performers, live art and outdoor performers, and any other performance artist that doesn’t fit rigid art labels.

The IGNITE Artist Development Programme has four strands:

  • R&D Local Artists– a start-up project of £1000 for up to three artists and companies based in York or North Yorkshire
  • R&D Residency – up to three grants of £1000 available to writers, artists and companies from across the North of England and wider UK to spend time in York developing new ideas and work.
  • Black Box: Public Showcases – up to four grants for artists and companies to showcase their work in progress in our Studio on Tuesday 6 November, 7.45pm
  • IGNITE Network – a network of artists and companies, arts professionals and members of the public interested in upcoming opportunities, masterclasses and workshops, networking events and more – sign up to our fortnightly newsletter curated by York Theatre Royal’s Artistic team.

Deadline

31 July

Successful applicants will be notified by 24 August.

All residencies will take place between September 2018 and March 2019, while the Black Box Showcase will be on 6 November 2018.
