ITV Studios Disabled Writers in Development

ITV Studios Disabled Writers in Development is an opportunity for four d/Deaf, disabled and neurodiverse individual writers to develop a script over twelve months. The aim is to expand the talent pool of d/Deaf, disabled and neurodiverse writers who are ready to be commissioned by ITV and the wider television drama industry. Two writers will be supported by Tall Story Pictures and two writers will be supported by Patrick Spence’s scripted Studio at ITV Studios. Successful applicants will develop their own original idea through to script, which will then be pitched to the ITV Drama Commissioning team.

Payment: Fee of £20,000 for 12 month development

To apply, writers must submit a sample script. Applications are open to disabled people only and writers should have at least one professional writing credit (for television, theatre, short film or radio which they have been paid for).

To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills:

– Ability to demonstrate an understanding of character, story and structure as well as the ability to write clearly and concisely
– Have at least one professional writing credit (this could be writing for television, theatre, short film or radio which you have been paid for)
– Submit a sample script which must be the writer’s own original work

Patrick Spence’s scripted Studio develops and produces premium drama for the UK and international market, as well as housing 5 Acts Productions, led by David P Davis. The Studio was set up by Patrick Spence in 2019 with Patrick as Creative Director. Prior to this, Patrick was Managing Director of Fifty Fathoms where he exec produced Fortitude for Sky Atlantic; Marvellous and The A Word for BBC and Adult Material for Channel 4. Patrick’s Studio are currently producing A Spy Among Friends for ITV and Spectrum, starring Guy Pearce, Damian Lewis. Litvinenko, for ITV and Viaplay, starring David Tennant. Mr Bates Vs The Post Office for ITV and Ralph & Katie, Pete Bowker’s comedy series for BBC1 about the early days of marriage for a couple with Down’s Syndrome, written and directed entirely by disabled talent.
