Live Theatre Bursaries

Applications for Live Theatre Bursaries to support fresh and innovative approaches to story-based theatre are now open for 2020. Closing date for applications is Thursday 30 April at 10am.

The Live Theatre Bursary offers a £2000 cash grant to use as against any part of your project. In addition, the bursary will also include dramaturgical and producing support as well as R&D and rehearsal space. Bursary winning pieces will be have the opportunity to be performed as part of Live Theatre’s Elevator programme.

Live Theatre is looking for ideas which show innovative approaches to story-based theatre. These ideas must be original and suitable for theatrical production, story-led and complimentary to Live’s aims and current programming. Artists must provide evidence that they are able to see the project through to the end and it must be a new piece of work; anything that has been developed to full production elsewhere is ineligible.

Finally, it must be exciting and challenging in both content and form and give a platform to under-represented groups within the arts.

Submissions can come from individuals, companies or collaborations and there is an expectation that the recipient artists or company will want to develop an artistic relationship with Live Theatre. Although Live Theatre’s focus is on the North East, applications from elsewhere in the UK are welcome. Submissions from outside the UK will not be considered.

The theatre is open to all ideas except adaptations, re-imaginings, children’s theatre, dance or circus work.
