Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Playwrights Programme-OPEN

The Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Playwrights’ Programme is a free course for writers and theatre makers in the Liverpool City Region.

Each year, up to ten writers are invited to join the programme and work closely with their New Works team to hone their playwriting skills and knowledge, with a view to write a full length stage play.

The initial term explores the fundamentals of playwriting through a series of fortnightly workshops led by the New Works team, visiting writers, directors and other practitioners. The group receives a reading list, with access to their extensive script library and between workshops there are theatre visits (with free tickets to all the in-house productions).

The programme is completely free of charge.

Deadline

3rd August 2018

The group meet every fortnight on Thursday evenings between 6pm and 8.30pm in the Writers’ Room at the Everyman.

Each writer submits the first draft of a full-length play in February.  The second term focuses on the redrafting process and each writer receives one-to-one dramaturgical support in addition to discussing their work within the group sessions.

Applicants will be shortlisted, and then invited for an informal interview so that they can put together a group they think will work well together for the year.

Entry guidelines

Applicants must be aged 18+ and have some experience of writing for the stage (not necessarily a full production). Talent, full commitment and passion, however, are more important than experience. They’re looking for innovative, original and exciting new voices from the Liverpool region: writers who are committed to playwriting and making theatre which will delight, engage and challenge audiences.

They ask all applicants to send us a piece of writing for stage.  This could be a short play, a scene or scenes from a longer play, or the beginning of a play you would like to develop.  All submissions must be original scripts written for the stage: we cannot accept radio, TV or film scripts.  Submissions must be no longer than 10 pages.

They expect a large number of applications and so we cannot accept full-length scripts as part of the application process, and can’t offer feedback to every writer.

To apply, complete the online application form on their website telling them about your experience to date, why you wish to develop your playwriting craft, and how this opportunity to work with the Everyman & Playhouse appeals to you.

To submit and for more information please visit their website.

Please note, the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse also accept unsolicited scripts from writers based in the Liverpool City Region throughout the year. Please see their script submissions page for more information.
