Manchester Cathedral is looking to appoint a writer-in-residence. – The number of hours per week and the rate of pay will be discussed at interview. The post is for 12 months in the first instance, renewable by mutual agreement. The main aims for this residency will be:
- To develop and disseminate creative writing at Manchester Cathedral through the production of original poetry, prose, scriptwriting, non-fiction or work in other forms in response to or inspired by the Cathedral’s archives, premises and wider work;
- To facilitate and encourage original creative writing at and inspired by Manchester Cathedral through the delivery of workshops, events and activities;
- To curate and stage public exhibitions and performances of original creative work, both the writer’s own and that produced by members of the Cathedral community, at the Cathedral
and on digital platforms (e.g. social media); - To encourage the participation of students in creative writing activities at and offered by Manchester Cathedral, including as part of academic assessment where appropriate;
- To make creative writing part of the mission of learning and hospitality at Manchester Cathedral, including the championing of equality, diversity and inclusion, and widening
participation; - To raise the profile of Manchester Cathedral within the literary ecosystem(s) of Greater Manchester and increase engagement with creative activities at and inspired by the
Cathedral, including through collaboration with other organisations where appropriate.
The successful candidate will have:
- A degree level qualification or equivalent practical experience (e.g. a publishing history) in creative writing and/or English literature;
- A track record of success in developing and delivering creative writing projects/activities (e.g. running workshops or book groups);
- Sympathy with a post within the Church of England.
