Mental Health in Drama: Panel Discussion and Q&A

Saturday 26 March, 10.30am – 11.30am.

Streaming over Zoom

Advance registration essential.

This online panel discussion and Q&A explores responsible mental health portrayals in drama and comedy scripts, and how to avoid stereotypes and sensationalism.

Panelists include: Lucy Nichol – freelance mental health script advisor and author of The Twenty Seven Club, Jenni Regan – freelance mental health script advisor and author of Isolation and Victoria Bradley-Smith – junior storyliner (Hollyoaks) and former script researcher (Coronation Street).

Both Lucy and Jenni have worked on behalf of charities including Mind, The Road to Recovery Trust, Recovery Connections and Action on Postpartum Psychosis to ensure mental health portrayals in soaps, dramas, theatre and fiction are authentic. Jenni was also responsible for setting up Mind’s national media advisory service.

Lucy and Jenni will be joined by Victoria to talk about their previous collaborations on major soap storylines – looking at the process from all perspectives and how context matters when it comes to stigma.
