New Creatives is an exciting talent development scheme that offers opportunities for emerging creatives to be mentored by experienced artists to make new artistic works in film, audio or interactive media, designed for BBC channels and platforms. Applicants can come from any artistic disciplines: they could be writers, sound artists, podcasters, dancers, performers, musicians, filmmakers, comedians, visual artists, illustrators, animators, poets, storytellers, games designers; or they could be something else entirely.
New Creatives is co-funded by Arts Council England and BBC Arts and is delivered in partnership with five creative media organisations across England.
Tyneside Cinema are leading the programme in the North of England, where artists aged 16 to 30 to bring to their original ideas to life through film, audio or interactive artworks.

Selection criteria
From the serious to the comedic, the soothing to the provocative, the specific to the abstract they’re looking for ideas that push the boundaries on what constitutes art, make people think, and encourage new ways of understanding ourselves and the world in which we live. They are NOT accepting journalism or current affairs documentary.
The selection criteria are:
- Relevance the ideas and themes that really matter to you and your community – however you might define them.
- Talk-ability shareable content that gets people talking.
- Timeliness things that impact people’s lives here and now.
- Originality content that innovates.
