Northern England Musical Theatre Writers’ Lab- invite to writers working on musical theatre projects

6-8pm on Monday 18th January

and then the group will meet every other Monday up to the end of April 2021.

The Northern England Musical Theatre Writers’ Lab will commence in the New Year online (at least initially) on zoom, co-ordinated by Matthew Bugg on behalf of Mercury Musical Developments and Musical Theatre Network.

They are partnering with Leeds Conservatoire on this project and Adam Stadius, Programme Leader for Musical Theatre, has offered the writers in the group the potential to work with Leeds Conservatoire students for read throughs of their shows/work at the start of January and/or workshop opportunities at the end of February.

They want to be sure that writers coming to this group are comfortable with giving support and feedback to other writers as well as receiving feedback about their own work. If you are interested in joining the group, please can you answer these three questions to give them an idea of your work and how this group would benefit you?

  1. What musical theatre project are you developing that you would discuss with peers at the Lab (include title, any co-writers, a one sentence description of its subject/themes, and describe its stage of development, 3 sentences maximum)
  2. The Lab aims to provide a supportive environment for musical theatre writers to discuss their work in development, sometimes sharing content and feedback. What would you hope to gain out of being part of the group?
  3. If you’ve not been part of a similar group run by MMD and MTN before, please briefly summarise relevant past experience (eg productions of musicals you’ve written previously):

Please email your response to Matthew Bugg on mrbugg@me.com by midday Monday 21st December, and let them know if you’d like a slot for your piece to be read/sung at the start of January.
