Through a series of writing exercises, group discussions and scene readings, participants will learn tools and techniques to help them create queer characters, stories, forms and structures in plays.

Participants will be guided through the writing of a short piece of queer theatre which will be showcased before a small audience in The Norwich Playhouse Playroom in the final session of the course.

The course will led by local queer scriptwriter James McDermott. James’s queer themed plays include ‘Fast Food’ starring Jude Law (Lyric Hammersmith), ‘Fifty Years’ (Waterside Theatre Manchester) and ‘Rubber Ring’ (UK tour) which has been published by Samuel French. James has also written for Attitude Magazine, he is Diversity Consultant at Norwich Arts Centre and he teaches playwriting at Norwich Theatre Royal, Marina Theatre Lowestoft and New Wolsey Ipswich.
