A festival of the best contemporary performing arts, never before seen in Oxford. 5 days jammed with theatre, dance, comedy, music and spoken word, featuring new and established artists presenting new work.
A collaboration between Oxford Playhouse and Arts at the Old Fire Station, Offbeat turns five this year and takes place across both venues, They are seeking applications to perform at the Old Fire Station, in the BT Studio and outdoors on Gloucester Green
They are seeking applications for exciting and innovative new work, ready to show to an Oxford audience. This can be a brand new piece that you wish to preview or a production that has been performed elsewhere before but is on its debut tour. They will carefully curate a rich and varied programme from the submissions we receive. The festival will cover many art forms including theatre, dance, comedy, music and spoken word. They are happy to receive applications for final stages of work in progress showings.
This year they are also delighted to offer a programme of artist support to 3 companies.

- The driving criteria of Offbeat is that work should be ‘new to Oxford’. They want a festival full of shows that the city has never seen before. It should be a chance for the public to see something completely new to them.
- This means that while they love welcoming artists back, the same show can’t be performed twice.
- If extracts of the show have been performed at scratch nights in the city, it is eligible. But if the show has been performed in its entirety in Oxford, even as a work-in-progress, it is not eligible under our criteria. This applies to improv shows as well.
