Orange Tree Writers Collective: Open for applications

As part of The Orange Tree’s commitment to discovering and nurturing extraordinary playwrights of the future, applications for the theatre’s Writers Collective will be open from 10am on Tuesday 2 January 2018 to 12 noon on Monday 15 January.

The Collective is an opportunity for a group of establishing writers to share skills, techniques and obsessions, and to fire up conversations and collaborations. It is run by the Orange Tree’s Literary Associate Guy Jones, alongside masterclasses from practitioners making work at the theatre. Writers are invited to use the group to develop a new piece of work with the dramaturgical support of the theatre and Writers Collective peers. Meetings will take place on Monday evenings from February until July.

The Orange Tree are looking for original and provocative writers of any age who have had at least one play professionally produced. There is no fee for Collective participants, but a small bursary is available to cover agreed expenses incurred.

What to submit/How to apply:

Interested writers should write to writerscollective@orangetreetheatre.co.uk enclosing:

  • A covering letter (no more than one page) outlining your reasons for applying
  • A sample of your work (one full-length play you feel best represents you as a writer)
  • A 200 word-outline of an as yet unfinished play you might want to develop during your time on the Collective
  • Your writing CV

If you are a writer who has applied to the Collective in the past you are welcome to apply again.

If you are concerned you may not meet the criteria, you are welcome to phone or email Guy for an informal conversation about the opportunity: guy.jones@orangetreetheatre.co.uk or 020 8940 0141.
