Part of the Main: Online Workshop: Good Writing is Good Editing – Being Your Own Dramaturg

Good writing is really good editing. But what does that entail and how do you do it? Join me for a three week course which will bring you and your script through the editing process. You will gain a set of tools and questions to aid you in the redrafting process. Not everyone can have the luxury of working with a dramaturg, but you can certainly train yourself to give yourself constructive criticism.

Please note:

  • Workshop sessions will not be recorded.
  • They are unable to issue refunds.
  • All listed times are UK BST/GMT
  • You will automatically be sent a workshop registration link upon booking.

Course structure

Week One: Structure and Style

You will investigate different play structures, identify what kinds of narratives you are trying to tell and help make sure your story has clarity.

Week Two: Character Development and Voice

You will delve into character and communication in scenes. You will address text and subtext and be rigorous about authorial voice versus character voice.

Week Three: Where do we go from here?

Sasha Wilson will read and provide individual feedback on the scripts and answer any questions which have arisen over the previous two weeks of the course.

Intended for students who have a draft of a play already written. Over the course of these three weeks you will complete a pass through of your script, engage your critical thinking and equip yourself with a set of skills to apply to future work and a roadmap for where to take the draft as you continue to work on it.
