As a freelance scriptreader Naomi has read for a number of local , national and international playwriting competitions including Theatre 503 Playwriting Award, Papatango Prize, Manchester 24:7 Theatre Festival and Greater Manchester Fringe Best New Play Award. She also works as a script reader for The National Theatre, Sheffield Theatres and The Royal Exchange Theatre reading unsolicited script submissions.

Naomi will lead this two hour session designed for playwrights who are ready to submit their work to competitions, theatres and writers development schemes. Participants will have the opportunity to find out more about different playwriting competitions and opportunities including the returning Verity Bargate Award. They will also gain an insight into what happens once their script arrives on a readers desk/in their inbox. While acknowledging that plays are meant to be SEEN not read, Naomi will guide participants through the following questions;

Where can I send my work?
How do I know if a competition is right for me/my play?
Who judges these competitions and HOW are the winners chosen?
What are the common mistakes to avoid?
What can I do to make my script stand out from the pile?

This workshop is suitable for playwrights of all levels of experience who feel ready to share their work with the world. Please bring a notebook and pen or laptop and be ready to share your thoughts and experiences.
