Red Dragonfly’s competition welcomes submissions from new and emerging playwrights of East Asian and South East Asian Heritage or from BESEA Communities in the UK. Ten applicants will be invited to a workshop with Red Dragonfly’s dramaturge to develop their idea into a script. £1000 prize fee is available for the winning playwright and their play will be produced and toured by Red Dragonfly to various festivals and venues in the UK from May to July 2022

Criteria 

• Applicants must be aged 18+ and based in the UK
• There is no entry fee
• Ideas and subject can be anything that can be developed into a full length 1 hour play for a cast of up to 4 actors

Deadline

31 January 2022, midnight GMT

Successful participants will receive invitations to a workshop by 13th February 2022.

Workshop location, time and date to-be-confirmed and travel will be provided – depending on applicants’ bases.

Script development one-to-one sessions: through-out March 2022

Winner will be announced at the end of March 2022.

In April 2022, the Winner will continue to work on the final draft with our dramaturg, and production and rehearsals will take place.

The play will be showcased at Fringe and Theatre festivals and regional venues from May to July 2022.

Red Dragonfly New Writing Festival is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

Unsuccessful candidates and participants are also encouraged to continue to have contact with Red Dragonfly on their writing and endeavours – we are always keen to help emerging talents within our capacity and will keep them in mind for our future projects.
