Scottish Youth Theatre- textLAB

In a continued partnership with Playwrights’ Studio Scotland, textLAB will offer training bursaries to six writers aged 18-25 to come together and interrogate – through practice –what contemporary performance writing could look like. Young writers will build a long-term programme of creative provocations and skills development workshops that are bespoke to their needs, drawing on the expertise of artists working across forms, genres and disciplines.

The project embraces hybrid working – weekly sessions will take place online, but there will be supported opportunities to come together in-person throughout the traineeship. After 10 months, this new community of writers will share their work in a form – live or digital, performance or print – that they will co-create with Scottish Youth Theatre.

textLAB is designed for people who have some experience of writing, but probably not for those who have had a professional staging or reading of their work. As part of the application, they ask writers to attach a 5-page extract of their writing – it could be poetry, monologue, game script or screenplay, but should be single-space, PDF format and written for performance (in the broadest sense).
