Screenshot- TV commission for writer-performers

Screenshot is a new competition offering theatre writer-performers (that’s writers who perform their own work) the chance to win a TV commission with South Of The River Pictures and Sister .  Along the way, shortlisted artists will showcase their project to a panel including leading TV commissioners and actors such as Lolly Adefope, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Olivia Colman and Rosie Jones. It will create essential opportunities following a year of cultural lockdown for theatre.
Longlisted candidates will be invited to present their projects to a judging panel comprised of acclaimed writer/performers, LollyAdefope (Ghosts), Rosie Jones (Live at the Apollo and Sex Education S3) and Phoebe Waller – Bridge (Killing Eve, Fleabag) whose extraordinary careers have all been built on the foundations of self-penned, solo stage shows. The trio line-up alongside inspirational industry experts including comedy dignitaries Olivia Colman (The Favourite, Peep Show), BBC Head of Comedy Kate Daughton, Channel 4 Head of Comedy Fiona McDermott, Sky Commissioning Editor Tilusha Ghelani and representatives from South of the River and SISTER.

It’s been the summer in which everything was cancelled. Were your festival dreams scuppered? Has the live show you’ve spent all year devising lost its stage? Have you been stuck performing your one-woman play in your living room to your flatmates, knowing the rest of the world has to see it?

UK TV and theatre have always been interconnected, and now more than ever, in the absence of traditional live opportunities, it is vital that we offer other platforms to showcase your work and stories.

If you’ve always thought your voice could find a home on screen, this might be the thing for you.

ENTRANT CRITERIA

  • This is an initiative for emerging voices, and therefore they are only considering applicants who have not already had an original project produced for television, film or streaming service.
  • They are excited to offer an opportunity here that aims specifically to preserve the spirit of live performance, and offer a platform to writer-performers who have been uniquely challenged by the cancellations of the summer and beyond. Brilliant emerging writers who don’t perform their work should check out our other opportunities such as Sister’s Writer in Residence Scheme and South of the River’s soon to be announced ‘South Rising’ screenwriters workshop
  • Applicants must be over 18, and UK nationals or have ‘right to reside’ status in the UK; please see here for further information.

Deadline

Applications are open from 12.01am on Thursday 1st October – 11.59pm on Sunday 11th October.
