There are four commissions available in this final round of commissioning. They welcome applications from Black* artists based in the North** of England, working across any art form (including, but not limited to, visual arts, theatre, dance, circus, music, literature and film).

  • 2 x £4000 (R&D): to support artists to work through new concepts or ideas.
  • 2 x £8000 (MAKE): to support artists who are ready to get their project up and running. One of the commissions is aimed at artists interested in making work for younger audiences (aged 13–25).

This is the final round of Slate commissions and they’re looking for work that is bold in its ambition created by artists who want to change the world, by any means necessary.

Slate want you to have the freedom to create the work you want to make. There is no set theme, no set subject and you can be working in any art form*. The only expectation is that the work you create will have a profound impact on anyone who comes to see it. They want you to challenge, inspire, empower and pave the way for a new generation.

Be bold. Be fearless. Be the artist that you want to be.

*If your art form is outside the primary area of work of the commission partners, please arrange to speak with your local Enabler for guidance on submitting an application.

* To Eclipse, Black includes anyone who is marginalized for their race or ethnicity.
** North of England (Humberside, North East, North West and Yorkshire).

Deadline: Fri 14 Jun, 5pm
