Submit your script to Talawa Theatre Company
Talawa is looking for new writers. Send them your play between 1st July and 31st July!
They will read every script they are sent and bring in those writers they are interested in working with. They will also consider you for upcoming opportunities for emerging artists at Talawa including:
- Talawa Writers’ Programme: three new commissions and a programme of development activities
- Talawa Firsts: a season of scratch performances
- Studio Firsts: research and development weeks for theatre-makers
The script submission window runs from 1st to 31st July and is open to Black British writers.
Please send your script along with a short covering letter telling us about you and your work to: Jane Fallowfield, Talawa Theatre Company, 53-55 East Road, London N1 6AH.
We aim to respond to you within 3 months.

Hi there, just a quick comment on your advert as reading half-way down it I now see the opportunity is only open to black British writers. Whilst I am happy with the fact you are centred on this group, I do wonder why you don’t state it in the first couple of sentences? (Please note, you are not alone in this practice as often I read down an advert only to find it’s intended for a region of the UK, women, or specific age or disability group). Nothing wrong with any of these but stating it early on enables people to know if they do or do not qualify for entry to it). Thanks

Dear Bob,
Thank you for your email. Regarding your comment, we are simply sharing information from other companies that ask us to publicise their work. They send us opportunities or events and then we share them on our website. As Talawa is a BME led company they are specifically interested in black writers. There are many other opportunities on our website which are not aimed at any particular groups.
