Terrifying Women II: A Stockroom Workshop

Join Terrifying Women founders Morgan, Abi and Sampira for a day of horror workshops, conversations around women and horror writing in theatre.

Plus, the opportunity to pitch for one of three new commissions to be produced in their next Terrifying Women show this October!

Terrifying Women was founded in order to highlight the lack of women writing horror for the stage; the company is dedicated to producing new horror work by women and in an exciting new partnership with Stockroom, the Terrifying Women Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, Abi Zakarian and Sampira Al-Fihri invite you to join them for three unique workshops, a day of debate and discussion, and the opportunity to pitch for one of three new commissions for their next Terrifying Women show in October.

Morgan, Abi and Sammy will each lead a workshop on a variety of horror themed topics as well as co-hosting a workshop on how to pitch for a horror play. Anyone attending will then have the chance to submit a pitch for a short horror play which Morgan, Abi and Sammy will then select three to be commissioned and produced alongside three new plays they are presenting at the next Terrifying Women show this October – Terrifying Women II: The Return!

The workshops are open to all women and non-binary creatives; they are an LGBTQI inclusive company. There will be two BSL interpreters in attendance throughout the day and sensory guides and content warnings will be made available in advance. Stockroom has gender neutral toilets and a wheelchair accessible toilet with these specific dimensions: turning circle to access is 75cm; there will be further wheelchair accessible toilets available at nearby locations.

Tickets are pay what you can, and there’s an option to pay it forward for someone else. If you are on a low-income or are unable to pay for a ticket please get in touch so we can assist with tickets.

Workshop 2 with Abi Zakarian (12 Midday – 1.30 pm)

  • Prices: pay as you decide from £2 to £8
Discover how to dig deep into personal heritage and history to find those freaky folklores particular to your ancestry and build scary stories, horrific characters and bloody narratives which conjure up truly representative tales to terrify your audience. Everyone has a unique set of fears; making them manifest through your own background brings new and original perspectives to old tropes. This workshop will help you explore your own personal origin stories and marry them with universal horror themes.

Workshop with Sampira (2.30 – 4 pm)

A workshop all about the history of political horror and how we can take the things that grind us down in society and make them into fun, blood-soaked fables.

Workshop and Q&A with all Terrifying Women (4.15 – 6 pm)
