THE 2022 IMISON AWARD

Applications are now open for the 2022 Imison Award, for audio drama scripts by a writer new to the medium which were broadcast or made available online between 1 October 2020 and 31 October 2021.
The Imison Award is presented annually to the best audio drama script by a writer new to the medium and which, in the opinion of the judges, is the best of those submitted. The award perpetuates the memory of Richard Imison, acknowledging the encouragement and friendship he gave to writers in general, and to radio dramatists in particular.

GUIDELINES 

  • Open to original audiodrama first broadcast on radio or made available online via a recognised platform (whether on a streamed or download basis). This must be within the UK by a UK-based producer during the period 1 October 2020 – 31 October 2021 by a writer or writers new to audio drama.
  • The work must be an original commissioned piece for audio and it must be the first audio drama by the writer(s)to have been released. An adaptation of a piece produced or published for any other medium (e.g. stage,television, film, novel, poem or a short story) will not be eligible. Writing pairs must both be new to audio drama.
  • Recognised platforms for the purpose of this award include Audible, iTunes, BBC Sounds and Spotify. Other platforms may be recognised on a case by case basis as the industry develops.
  • Submissions must run to a minimum length of 10 mins and maximum length of 90 minutes. When submitting episodes from a series or serial we will require consecutive episodes (including the first episode) to make up at least 45 minutes or the complete series if a lesser duration. The judges reserve the right to call in the subsequent episodes if required.
