VAULT 2019 OPEN!

Applications for VAULT 2019 are now open until 6pm on 24 August 2018.

VAULT is an arts festival which aims to give audiences the chance to discover exciting performances by making a fair, encouraging environment for creators of theatre, comedy and other live art and events to make work in.

VAULT began in 2012 with a handful of shows as an attempt to do something different. It’s now an annual event taking place between January and March, hosting hundreds of different performances and connecting them to the audiences they’re made for.

VAULT offers a diverse programme of events, encompassing a whole spectrum of performance styles. In the past we’ve featured all kinds of theatre, circus, clowning, comedy, cabaret, opera, dance, escape rooms, huge parties and immersive games. Everything is welcome.

How to apply

There are four broad programming categories to which you can apply:

Theatre & Performance. This category encapsulates the majority of programming at VAULT. From goth-rock Euripides to aerialist extravaganzas, solo-storytelling to physical theatre. Shows are usually programmed in sixty minute slots with runs ranging from one night to one week.

Comedy. Stand up, sketch comedy, panel shows, work-in-progress to best-of and anything in between. Shows are usually programmed in sixty minute slots for one to five performances.

Lates. Our Lates events are exciting takeovers which occupy the entire main bar area – and potentially more rooms too – every Saturday night. In the past we’ve hosted multi-band gigs, themed parties and club nights.

Outside The Box. The world is full of ideas that don’t fit into neat patterns. If you’ve got an idea which doesn’t seem to fit in the other strands, or a conventional theatre space you can apply with an “Outside The Box” show. A large immersive production, something that occurs outside or in vehicle venues – that kind of thing. We can’t programme many of these but we’re always up for a challenge.

Applications to VAULT are reviewed by their Programming Panel, a team of curators drawn from the industry and the Festival’s previous participants.

VAULT favours proposals from artists and productions which;

Have a distinct voice.

Know who their audiences are.

Will benefit from being at VAULT.

Have considered the practicalities of staging a show at VAULT.

Give  a clear idea of what form the performance will take.

Haven’t had a London run previously for more than 2-3 performances.
