Grindstone London are now accepting submissions from playwrights for our exciting new writing event, ‘Write Christmas’. It will be the first in a series of new writing events, which will all fit around a specific theme or inspiration. This time, the only brief is ‘Christmas’!

The chosen short plays will be performed to the public at the Tristan Bates Theatre on Sunday 13th April at 3.00pm. There will also be some industry professionals attending including T.V writers, theatre producers and literary agents (guest list to be announced). The bar will be open afterwards to have a drink and get feedback from your audience. It will also be very Christmassy!!

It’s a great opportunity to have people see your work without any financial commitment, test out new material and receive great feedback. Grindstone will be producing the event and directing the project as a whole. We’ll help you to find a director and actors for your individual play (if needed). We will also be taking part in the event with a short play of our own. If chosen you will be required to be in charge of your own rehearsals. There will be a technical rehearsal and dress rehearsal from 10.00am on the 13th Dec.

TIPS
Don’t forget the brief CHRISTMAS. But use it however you wish!
We suggest you keep your cast as small as possible.
Think about staging. Will be working in a blank space and wont have much time in-between scenes for huge changes.
Keep it short! 15 minutes maximum!
Apply early so we have more time to read your work.
Now forget all the above and be as creative as you possibly can be.

We intend the event to be of the highest calibre, a lot of fun and a collaborative effort. Wherever possible writers who enjoy the process will be invited back for the next event.
