Writing for Theatre- at the Roundhouse with Marcus Bernard

This course, delivered in partnership with Free Word and The Upsetters, is an opportunity for existing and aspiring creative writers to explore creating work for stage on the theme of “Kindness”. Over 10 weeks, you will learn about structure, dialogue, producing and the politics of theatre to create new and exciting pieces of work suitable to be performed on stage. Each week will cover a new topic designed to help you create innovative work that breaks from traditions.

Week 1: An Introduction to Writing for Theatre.
Week 2: Traditional Story Structures.
Week 3: Experimental and Bold Structures.
Week 4: Practical workshops exploring form and structure.
Week 5: Building Characters.
Week 6: Experimenting with Dialogue.
Week 7: Practical workshops exploring character and dialogue.
Week 8: Writing and Mental Health.
Week 9: Politics and Activism of Creating Theatre.
Week 10: Producing.

This programme is aimed at writers and artists with some experience of writing who are looking to expand their understanding of creating work for theatre or how to adapt their existing skillset to a new medium.
