Young Writers Forge- Northern Broadsides

A free playwriting group for new writers aged 16-25 in the North of England. No previous experience required!

Northern Broadsides are passionate about two things: stories and the North. Ever since their first production of Richard III in 1992, they have believed in the power of Northern voices. In 2021, they believe in the same thing.

Starting with the fundamentals of playwriting, the group will meet fortnightly with Resident Assistant Director, in a series of workshops, script-readings and one-on-one surgeries on Zoom, to develop their own short plays.

The Forge will culminate in a scratch performance of these plays, read/performed by professional actors. Please be aware that the nature of this scratch performance is contingent upon COVID-19 regulations.

They will select 12 writers who respond most creatively to the brief and reflect the diversity of the region. They particularly welcome applications from communities currently under-represented in the arts, including disabled, working class and ethnically diverse candidates.

Participants will be selected by a panel comprised of  Resident Assistant Director, Hallam Breen,  Creative Engagement Producer, Shabina Aslam, playwright Amanda Whittington and actor Alicia McKenzie.

Deadline

10pm, Sunday 7th March 2021.

Applicants will be told the outcome of their application by Friday 19th March 2021.

Sessions will take place 7pm – 9pm on Zoom, starting on Wednesday 31st March and will run fortnightly thereafter.
