OPEN HIRE: Jerwood Assistant Director AND a Trainee Assistant Director role available on the forthcoming Bruntwood Prize winning Untitled F*ck M*ss S**gon Play by Kimber Lee directed by Roy Alexander Weise

We have a Jerwood Assistant Director AND a Trainee Assistant Director role available on the forthcoming Bruntwood Prize winning Untitled F*ck M*ss S**gon Play by Kimber Lee directed by Roy Alexander Weise

Part of the Young Vic’s Jerwood Artist Development Pathway and produced by Royal Exchange Theatre, Factory International for Manchester International Festival, Young Vic and Headlong.

Untitled F*ck M*ss S**gon Play by Kimber Lee directed by Roy Alexander Weise will rehearse and perform in Manchester as part of Manchester International Festival and then perform at the Young Vic in London.

Kimber Lee’s play jumps through time, wriggling inside of and then exploding lifetimes of repeating Asian stereotypes, wrestling history for the right to control your own narrative in a world that thinks it can tell you who you are.

The Young Vic is partnering with Royal Exchange Theatre to provide an exceptional opportunity to learn and develop skills and understanding. The show will be performed at both theatres and there is a chance to get to know both organisations as well as assisting on the show.

Due to the form and content of the play we are particularly interested in hearing from people who are East and South East Asian.

The program provides each assistant director:

  • An assistantship on Untitled F*ck M*ss S**gon Play by Kimber Lee directed by Roy Alexander Weise
  • A two-week placement observing day to day running of the Young Vic, attending planning and management meetings and spending time in departments such as marketing, production and development
  • The opportunity to devise and lead two peer-led projects for the Genesis Network at the Young Vic.
  • A chance to work with the Young Vic’s Taking Part department on delivering a programme of work for schools and colleges inspired by Untitled F*ck M*ss S**gon Play.
  • A small pot of money to see productions in London or beyond

If you are unsure which role would best suit your experience and skills please get in touch with creatorsprogram@youngvic.org. Alternatively, they will meet everyone who expresses an interest and can talk then about which role might be most appropriate. They recognise that some director’s and theatre maker’s experience may sit between these two roles.

Both Royal Exchange Theatre and the Young Vic that is made up of people from a variety of backgrounds with different experiences, skills, and stories to join us and influence and develop our working practice.
