THE ROYAL EXCHANGE THEATRE AUTUMN/WINTER SEASON ANNOUNCEMENT 

The Royal Exchange Theatre is at the centre of Manchester, a dynamic global city which demands theatre that is ambitious, diverse and reflective of now. This Autumn/Winter Artistic Director Sarah Frankcom curates a striking season in which she brings together distinctive theatre makers from across the UK to make work that celebrates the similarity found in our differences and questions who we are today.

This season, TWO Bruntwood Prize Judges Award winners from 2015 will get World Premieres in the Royal Exchange Theatres main space!

PARLIAMENT SQUARE

A searingly powerful new play PARLIAMENT SQUARE carefully and compassionately explores the power of political protest. Selected for a Judges Award in the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2015 writer James Fritz examines the impact and fall out of a single, selfless act of protest. Directed by Jude Christian PARLIAMENT SQUARE questions the nature of extreme demonstration, asking where the line falls between complete commitment and dangerous obsession. This compelling World Premiere is a co-production with The Bush Theatre and will run in the Theatre from 18 – 28 October before transferring to London.

THE ALMIGHTY SOMETIMES

THE ALMIGHTY SOMETIMES is Kendall Feaver’s extraordinary professional debut. Winner of a Judges Award in the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2015 this is a profoundly moving portrait of a young woman trying to take back control and a mother compelled to protect her. Directed by Katy Rudd THE ALMIGHTY SOMETIMES is unflinchingly honest and woven through with startlingly delicate humour. The production runs in the Theatre from 9 – 24 February 2018.
